History
The club has been in existance under various titles for a little over 50 years, being formed just after the end of the Second World War.
The club was originally based at, what is now the Barking campus of the University of East London, but which was then a college of varying name.
The club played under the college name as it changed from the South East Essex County Technical College to the Barking Regional College of Technology.
From the early 1970s to 1985 it was known as NELP or the North East London Polytechnic Ladies Hockey Club when the college was the polytechnic of that name.
From 1985 to 1991 it was known as Eastway Ladies Hockey Club and was based at Eastway Sports Centre in Leyton.
The name Oakway was adopted when the club moved to its present site in Oakfield playing fields in 1991, and set up home at the Old Parkonians Association, the old boys of the Ilford County High School.
